9th and 10th Grade Art
In 9th and 10th grade art, we started off the year
learning about the element of Line and students created a contour line drawing
with at least three objects (including at least one figure). They had to fill in
the contour drawings with every kind of line learned about in class and then color
in their contour objects using warm and cool color combinations to create
unique, graphic works of art. After this project, students studied optic
art-a style of art that uses optical illusions- and created their own optic art drawings. For this project they had to draw
three chairs on their paper. Then they had to break up the space into 6 equal sections
and add 5 circles. In the first section, the negative space
had to be black and everything inside the chairs and circles colored with color
pencil except when a circle and chair overlapped it went back to black. Every
time they moved to a new section the colors would flip flop-negative space
being in color and positive space in black and visa versa. They also had to use
either cool or warm colors for the circles and whatever they decided for the
circles they would use the opposite for the chairs. This was a fun project and
the results were fantastic!
Currently, we have moved on from our unit on line to a unit on value
where students began by creating a value scale drawing. After this project, they began the assignment they are currently working on which is a broken value
drawing. For this project they had to draw an object, enlarge it using a grid
and then break up the space and draw a value scale inside each section. The
project will be finished next week but the drawings are already looking great,
and I'm excited to see the final results which will be posted on this blog!
