6th Grade Portraits

6th Grade learned about the work of artist Chuck Close and drew their own self portrait in a similar style. They first learned how to draw a face using correct proportions, then they began their portrait. Once they had the pencil drawing finished they outlined it in sharpie marker, divided the space into a one inch by one inch grid and colored it in using a warm/cool color scheme. If the face was warm colors, then they had to use cool colors for the background and visa versa.

7th and 8th Grade Still Life Drawings

7th and 8th Graders are currently working on still life drawings. Each table had a different still life set up when they came to class and we practiced doing 30 second to five minuit gesture drawings the first day. Then I showed them how to use a viewfinder to pin point an interesting composition and then draw using markers, pastels or colored pencils. Here are some the works in progress:

9th and 10th Grade Self Portraits

9th and 10th Grade is currently working on self portrait drawings. We spent two weeks just practicing drawing facial features with correct proportions then they began their drawings. If they did not want to draw themselves I allowed them to draw another person of their choice. Once the drawing is done they can use colored pencils, pencil, or oil pastels to color it in. Some are choosing to do pencil shading for the figure and the background color, which I think will turn out awesome. Here are a few sneak peaks of what some of them have so far, since they are still working on these.
