Byzantine Art Project

 Byzantine Art Project!

Currently students are working on a project inspired by the Byzantine Era. For this project, students learned about Byzantine Art and studied different patterns and motifs used during this period. They then chose an image inspired by Byzantine themes and made a one inch border around their paper in which they incorporated Byzantine patterns. They then drew their image in the center in colored pencil. When this is all done, they will use gold leaf in one area of the artwork to create a focal point or highlight the border. Above is my in-progess example. Check out this page in week to see the students finished projects! They are turning out pretty amazing so far!

Art 1, 2 Painting Project

Famous Artist Painting Project!

For our most recent project, students were allowed to paint on canvases using acrylic and tempera paints. For this project, students chose a work of art from history that they really liked and either copied the work exaclty or came up with their own design drawing inspiration from that work of art. To start off the project, students learned about value by creating a value strip in paint. They then learned how to start off with an underpainting and add dark values to medium to light values in the painting process. It was challenging working on canvases for some, but overall they enjoyed the process and some were surprised to find that they could do it really well!

Check out some examples of student work below!
